A Personal Site
Like a life, a website has a multi-dimensional structure. It can capture time, in the short-term like a tweet, and in longer-term like a blog. Unlike both, a web site has a page structure of arbitrary complexity. The builder can construct topics and subtopics to organize information much like we attempt to organize our lives. In the end, this structure is illusory. There is no separation of mind and body. Mind is a fiction of body. Soul is a fiction of mind. Since Aristotle, Westerners have understood the world by deconstructing it. A personal site can model this deconstruction. In fact, life is organic. Despite Plato, there are no categories. Despite popular mythologies, there is no soul. Despite Aristotle, there is no mind separate from body.
There is only the organic whole.
Precepts found in a magazine decades ago:
- Set goals for yourself. Make them believable and clearly defined. Write them down every morning, vividly imagining those goals throughout the day. Once achieved, create another. Do not put this off.
- Learn to delay gratification. Do what must be done now, rather than what you like to do. Never make the mistake of serving two desires. You can only serve one.
- Consider spiritual values. Research this area closely. It can profoundly affect your attitude. Approach it with an open mind.
- Use time wisely. Do the most productive thing possible at every given moment.
- Learn from mistakes. Analyze why they happened. Use them as tools for growth.
- Develop a sense of humor. Don't always take everything so seriously.
